Ruedi Wild is on a roll! Last weekend’s win at Ironman 70.3 Switzerland means Ruedi is also now the Swiss National Champion in this distance. Check out his report below.
After a longer break following my two 70.3 races and wins in Asia back in March, I was successfully able to return to racing and winning my home race Ironman 70.3 Switzerland, just a few km`s away from where I live.
After the swim in the stunning surrounding of lake Zürich, it took me about 40 km to close the 45 sec deficit to the two leaders on the bike. I felt really good right from the beginning but forced myself not to push too hard in order to finish strong the second half of the hilly bike leg and demanding run course which included «stairways to heaven», a tough 400 steps to climb. My race plan worked out perfectly and the four of us could create a big gap on the chasers second half of the bike. After about 4 km on the run I was able to make the final move and run to another victory. It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces on race course and enjoy their support which for once made suffering in a race so sweet.
Next up for me will be Ironman 70.3 European Champs coming weekend in Denmark. Back to back racing on four hours races is never easy but I am sure also the mental boost from this past weekend will help to be recovered and ready for another successful race weekend!
