KONA BLOG: 15 Athletes – 15 Visions

October, it’s that time of the year again: Thousands of triathletes from all over the world come together on Hawaii’s – Big Island. Kailua Kona, to be precise. It is this time of the year when the Ironman World Championships take place.

This year is special. It is the 40th anniversary of this exceptional race. In 1978 the idea was to merge the Waikiki Roughwater Swim (3.86 km), the Around-Oahu Bike Race (approx. 180 km),and the Honolulu Marathon into one big race: the Ironman. Because of this, Hawaii is known as the birthplace of Ironman, and this is where the Ironman World Championships had been held ever since.

Reason enough for us to provide you with fascinating and unique behind the scenes coverage during the race week. Stay tuned for our daily KONA VLOG, covering the preparation of our pro-athletes, the ongoing story of Anne Haug’s first ever Ironman season or the very first try of agegrouper Samuel Götz in Kona. Keep an eye on our social media channels, Facebook & Instagram, as well as the DT Swiss website for daily news.

Also worth noting in this year’s race: 15 professional triathletes racing on DT Swiss wheels have qualified to race for the world championship crown. They are more than ready to give it their all, below you can read about their ambitions and goals.
