A presslaunch end of November? In Switzerland? Are you sure? What seemed to be kind of crazy idea turned out to be one of the most exicting events in 2016 – the GRANFONDO SEELAND – presentation of the new Endurance wheelset ERC 1100 DICUT and a Swiss riding experience based on a special concept.
New ERC 1100 DICUT
We invited 30 media partners and distributors to our homebase in the “watch-city” of Biel. Better known for its long history in watch manufacturing and home of companies like Rolex, Omega and Swatch, the city in the so called “Seeland” can be fairly foggy and grey in November times. At first glance not the ideal time and place to right your bike – no hurdle for us to organize a press launch. The “GRANFONDO SEELAND” gave chance to an international group of journalists to ride the new ERC 1100 DICUT endurance wheelsets and put them to the test.
80 km through various terrain in the Seeland area, including fast and flat roads, short and steep climbs, as well as some of the best gravel paths Switzerland has to offer. A ride full of challenges and adventures, leaving nothing to be desired and notably no fuel left in the tank!
A fast start along the lakeshore of lake Biel, some nasty climbing through the wineyards and more Aero-racing scenes were on the menu of the first half of the GRANFONDO SEELAND. Coming in at the feeding station halfway through the ride, the fog had disappeared and temperatures rose into a more comfortable zone.
A quick change of wheels, as the more aero-focused 25 mm tires needed to be switched for some lower pressure 28 mm gravel-focused tires on the ERC 1100 DICUT wheels. Strengthened with some Swiss chocolate bars and hot tea the ride continued facing the biggest challenges to come – the gravel sections. 20 km of finest gravel and farm roads waited for the bunch. Ignoring the driving ban on these paths the DT Swiss service car followed the group and made sure everybody’s feeling like Tom Boonen racing Tour of Flanders. The last gravel section – including a 2 km climb before descending back into the town of Biel – brought the final selection. Those who had some power left, fought it out until the line to secure their name in the winners list of the GRANFONDO SEELAND.
Verdict: A great event with great fun on the bike and one outstanding highlight to mention: The very best after-ride Swiss raclette dinner of all times!
